Already addicted to the pharmaceutical drug that keeps her body from decomposing, Bryn has to stop a secretive group of rich and powerful investors from eliminating the existing Returné addicts altogether. To ensure their plan to launch a new, military-grade strain of nanotech, the investors’ undead assassin—who just happens to be the ex-wife of Bryn’s lover Patrick—is on the hunt for anyone that stands in their way.

And while Bryn’s allies aren’t about to go down without a fight, the secret she’s been keeping threatens to put those closest to her in even more danger. Poised to become a monster that her own side—and her own lover—will have to trap and kill, Bryn needs to find the cure to have any hope of preserving the lives of her friends, and her own dwindling humanity…

ARCReview PageTurner SciFi Zombies

While I enjoyed books 1 & 2 they were a bit slower but Caine saved all the real action for the finale. WOW. Just WOW! Terminated is a fast paced, non-stop adrenaline rush from page one to the last page. Bryn and the gang didn’t get a minute’s rest.

Caine put Bryn through hell. From being blown up by an IED, hit by a semi truck, shot multi times, once in between the eyes and another in the heart by the man she loves to being burnt in a raging fire but it’s all in the life of Bryn 2.0. There’s even a part where Bryn guts herself in order to save herself and her friends.

Bryn is no longer the mild-mannered ex-military gal working at a funeral home. She’s been killed more times than I can count and brought back by the drug Returne that reanimate the dead with nano-bot technology. But when we last saw Bryn in Two Week’s Notice she got an upgrade and she now has the constitution of the Terminator, or the Energizer Bunny. She just keeping going and going. And with the upgrade she no longer needs the daily shots for Returne to keep her from decomposing. Great news right? Well now she has another problem. Now she craves protein to keep those little nano-bots working. Protein as in bloody meat, either in the from of a rare steak or the nearest human. And the harder she is damaged the harder the hungry hits her.

The makers of Returne, Pharmadene is out of the picture. Now the group is working to find the new group response behind the upgraded program, the Fountain Group.   And with the new group, we are dealing with government conspiracies and off the grid ex-military and militia types that Bryn’s boyfriend, Patrick uses to get them to safety while leaving Bryn wondering who the man she loves really is. All the while being chased by Patrick’s cray cray ex-wife, Jane, who just happens to be just like Bryn… hard to kill. But Jane is a total psychopath.

Caine has woven a great story  where Urban Fantasy meets Science Fiction Thriller.

First Thought: Oh Snap! Bryn 2.0 is going to be very interesting. Issue(s) I Had: I don’t understand why the revived people are being called Returne addicts. Addicts are people who can (if they choose to) stop doing something like drinking or drugs. But the revived NEED the Returne drug or they die. It’s like calling me an oxygen addict. I don’t get it. The Story: Bryn is now working for the government in order to get her doses of Returne to stay “fresh”. But little does the government know, she has her own private supplier. The crazy ex-FBI mad scientist, Manny is trying to tweak Returne so that Bryn and the revived do not have to get their supply from the government. […]

First Thought Not your “classic” zombies but still an interesting concept. Why I Listen I’ve had Working Stiff on my TBR since it’s release day and after listening to a sample of the audio, the narration sounded like one I would enjoy. And I was right. The story and narration both kept me entertain. Julia Whelan get a great job with the voices and timing of the narration. I’ve already purchased the next book on audio. The Story Bryn Davis has the worst first day on a job ever…. She dies and then comes back as a “zombie”. After serving in the military and dealing with dead bodies, Bryn thought she would be a good match in the position as the new funeral director at […]
