No one is safe.

Secret McQueen thought she’d seen it all, but that was before she, Desmond and Holden came home to find New York City burning and the streets overwhelmed with the walking dead. Now, in a race against time, she must find out who is responsible for unleashing hell on Earth.

For that, she’s going to need a whole new team of vampire wardens to help round up the perpetrators, who turn out to be a gang that makes Sons of Anarchy look like toddlers on tricycles.

Her quest across the city brings old friends and enemies out of the woodwork and reminds Secret once and for all why mercy and forgiveness are not always prudent. Lives will be lost, sacrifices will be made, and when the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same again.

With no time to mourn her losses, the only question remaining is if Secret can survive long enough to stop the apocalypse…or if this is the one challenge that will finally drown her in rivers of undead blood.

Warning: The final book in the Secret McQueen series has it all: hot kisses, unexpected guests, and enough tear-jerking moments to require a whole box of tissues. You’ve been warned.

“If anyone could spit in the face of the apocalypse, Secret, it’s you.”

I’ve never put a book down so many times as I did A SECRET TO DIE FOR. But not because it wasn’t good, because I didn’t want it to end. We are finally here, the end of the Secret McQueen series. And it’s been a ride!

Secret has been stuck in a love triangle for most of the series. Sometimes the guys in the triangle has changed and I’ve waffled in which guy I wanted Secret to end up with. Even though Secret made her choice in the last book, COLD HARD SECRET, there was still some leftover love triangle moments to deal with. And I’m still waffling about if I’m happy with the ending to Secret’s love life.

Let’s talk about the action… It was non-stop and while it was great I rolled my eyes at first when Secret was faced with what looked like a zombie apocalypse. Really?! We’re into the last book of the series and we’re getting a new plot line. But I was WRONG to doubt Sierra Dean. She pulled off the “zombie” story line well and managed to wrap up the series without it feeling rushed.

“Bill. Bill? Were we seriously here to kill a necromancer biker named Bill?”

A SECRET TO DIE FOR is a full of past and present characters and a couple of deaths along the way. (I didn’t spoil you! Look that book summary. You’ve been warned!) I was going to rate A SECRET TO DIE FOR 3.5 stars but one of the deaths earned it an extra .5 star. LOL Cold hearted of me? Maybe. But I wanted the character gone for so long but it was a bitter-sweet exit since “they” were redeemed in the end.

About Sierra Dean

Sierra Dean is a reformed historian. She was born and raised in the Canadian prairies and is allowed annual exit visas in order to continue her quest of steadily conquering the world one city at a time. Making the best of the cold Canadian winters, Sierra indulges in her less global interests: drinking too much tea and writing urban fantasy.
Ever since she was a young girl she has loved the idea of the supernatural coexisting with the mundane. As an adult, however, the idea evolved from the notion of fairies in flower beds, to imagining that the rugged-looking guy at the garage might secretly be a werewolf. She has used her overactive imagination to create her own version of the world, where vampire, werewolves, fairies, gods and monsters all walk among us, and she’ll continue to travel as much as possible until she finds it for real.

She’s also a book lover (of course!), obsessive collector of OPI nailpolish and the owner of way too many pairs of shoes.

This review contains spoilers from earlier books in the series. When we last left Secret, she was not dealing well with the horrific things that The Doctor did to her in SECRET UNLEASHED. She’s trying to make it look like she is but she’s not fooling anyone. After having The Doctor play with her insides, Secret can’t stand to be touched by people because it throws her back into her time with The Doctor. So both Desmond (her werewolf lover) and Holden (her vampire lover) have been keeping their distance romantically. Even though Secret killed The Doctor she’s still not safe. She still two enemies out there that wants her dead. Peyton a crazy vampire that’s tried to kill Secret before and Secret’s own mother. It’s hard to […]

I was a little worried when Secret Unleashed had a bit of a slow start. It took me a little while to get into the book which is a first for me with Secret. But once the bad evil depraved character called The Doctor walked on the pages I couldn’t put the book down. But I’m getting a head of myself. We’ve had a plot that was surrounded by the werewolves in Secret’s life then we took a side trip to read about the Fae now it’s the vampire’s turn to have a full plot. Sig sends Secret and Holden across country to California to help the West Coast Tribunal. Secret needs to find a vampire that’s gone MIA and it believed to have turned rouge. […]

First Impression: Finally! Fans of the series know what I’m talking about and when you start this series you will know too. Favorite Line/Quote: “You know how Lucas is. He’s the most spoiled toddler in the sandbox, and if he doesn’t get his way, he packs up his toys and goes home.” “I wondered if full-blooded vampires had something like blue balls for their fangs if they didn’t get to feed when they were expecting to. Like some kind of pseudo-sexual gingivitis.” What I liked: Every little Lucas and a lot of Holden and Desmond. I’ve I mentioned how much I don’t like Lucas? Through-out the series we have seen stories around the vampires and werewolves now it’s about the fae. Secret has to go into […]

I’ve had Keeping Secret on my Nook ever since it’s release day back in July (2012). I’ve been dragging my feet on reading it because the upcoming wedding that was to take place between Secret and Lucas. I have rooted for a wedding to NOT happen so hard before. But with this month’s release, Grave Secret I knew I had to suck it up and read to see what happened. With the 1st line of the book “Vampires can’t fly, but a grown man can if you throw him hard enough.” I thought WTF had I waited so long, I totally missed Secret and her snark. I love this series. If you haven’t read the series here a quite run down. Secret is half werewolf […]

Secret is back kicking ass and taking names. Secret’s life as a hybrid (half vamp, half werewolf) never has a  dull moment. If she’s not having business related problems there’s her personal life to keep her on her toes. Secret seems to be adjusting to her new job as best can be expected. Nothing like getting a promotion that you didn’t ask for and can’t say no to unless you are willing to lose a fight to the death. She is still in a love triangle between Lucas the werewolf king and her live-in boyfriend Desmond, who just happens to be Lucas’ second in the pack. Then let’s not forget Holden, the sexy vampire that is in Secret’s life. Now let’s throw in a demon […]

Secret Santa is a great Novella in the Secret McQueen series by Sierra Dean. It’s fast paced with mystery, action and a touch of naughty with some holiday cheer. Secret is getting use to her new job title that she earned at the end of A Bloody Good Secret. Secret’s work and personal life is never easy and with the events in Secret Santa we get to see that her future in the love department is not going to get any easier anytime soon! I won’t go into much details so that I don’t give away any spoilers but I can tell you that Secret McQueen is in my top 5 favorite Urban Fantasy series and Ms. Dean is in my top 10 favorite authors. If […]

Review: A Bloody Good Secret by Sierra Dean

A Bloody Good Secret picks up approximately three months after Something Secret This Way Comes. We find Secret has been living with her Grandmere for those three months, leaving her work and personal lives “on hold”. I won’t go into too many details so that I don’t give away any spoilers from the end of SSTWC. But Secret ran away from her life in NYC in part because of the assignment that the Vampire Council gave her. After Secret makes her return home from her “holiday”; we get more ass kicking action while she tries to solve the mystery behind the order from the council. While Secret was away her love life has only gotten more complex. Where in book one it looked like there […]
