Audio Review: Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs

This series is set in the same world as the Mercy Thompson Series, but on a slightly earlier time line. It begins with a novella titled Alpha and Omega published in the On the Prowl anthology. The decision to continue the story was made after the anthology had already been published, which has caused some confusion, since “book 1” is an actually a continuation of the short story. The series has plenty of action, but there’s more emphasis on the romantic attraction between the hero and heroine. On a romance-readers scale, this series is sweet rather than steamy. I highly recommend reading the novella Alpha and Omega before reading Cry Wolf. You will get a better feel for Anna’s character and why hers and Charles’ relationship is […]

At the end of the audio book there is a short interview with Jones and she states that Charley is a kind of mix between Stephanie Plum, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lorelai Gilmore from the Gilmore Girls. Now I’ve not read the Plum series yet nor have I watched the Gilmore Girls but I can see some of Buffy in Charley. Both Charley and Buffy are one of a kind (well Buffy is you don’t count Faith and the end of the last season). Charley like Buffy is special and finding out more about herself and her powers as she goes. Yeah she is the grim reaper, but what does that all mean and what cool powers does she have? Charley finds out a […]

I had checked this audio book out back during the summer and could not get passed chapter 4 so I stopped listening to it. I don’t normally give a book a second chance but since I’ve joined Cocktail Society Book Club and the book for February is book 3 in the series, Third Grave Ahead; I thought I’d give it another shot. Maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood the first go around because I did finish it and enjoyed this time around. I really liked the idea of a series about a woman Grim Reaper and that’s what drew me to it in the first place. Ms. Jones has written a great smart ass heroine in Charley Davidson. The snarky one liners and hint of romance between Charley and Reyes was a […]

I am so done with this series. You would think after 10 books Betsy’s character would have grown. WRONG. She is still the same dumb, shallow blonde stereo type; which was fun for the first few books but it’s gotten old and on my nerves. Undead and Undermined picks up where Undead and Unfinished left off. Betsy is trying to come to grip with the new time she returned to; after timing traveling with her sister Laura. Against advance, Betsy changed a few times in the past before coming back to the present and now she can see the error of her ways but as usual it’s too late. Betsy is not the typical heroine. Most of the time she is the reason the day […]

I really enjoyed listening to Incarceron and after its cliffhanger ending, I knew my next audio book would be Sapphique. Sapphique picks up a few months after Incarceron ends. We get to see what happens to Finn after he escapes Incarceron; but is the grass really greener on the other side? I believe that is the main theme throughout series. While Incarceron is told through Finn and Claudia’s point of view, Sapphique is told through multiple points of views. Which makes sense since half of the characters are on the inside of and the other half on the outside of Incareron. Sapphique and Incarceron are not light reads and I would recommend that you read them and not do the audio book if you […]

I love The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and I’ve been on the hunt for another Dystopian book. So I put Incareron on my TBR list. Then last week I ran across it on CD in the library and check it out. I was half through listening to Incarceron and I felt like I had missed some important information and was lost on some of the plot so I started over and there was still a few times I was a little confused about some of the characters. I don’t know if it was because I was listening to it while I was working and just tuning out from time to time or if it was how the book was written. Things that really bugged […]

I almost gave up on the series after the last two books, Biting the Bullet and Bitten to Death. But not even 2 chapters into One More Bite I was glad I decided to read one more book. This installment of the Jaz Parks series is definitely my favorite. Jaz is at her top sarcastic form and Cole, her sexy sidekick is back in full force with his hilarious stories and commentary. “When do you think they’ll let me get my cell out?: Cole asked. “I promised Mom I’d text her as soon as we land. I’m going to stick my phone up some guy’s kilt, flash a picture, and then challenge her to guess what she’s seeing.” “That is so disgusting.” “What? I’ll get […]

May have spoilers if you have not read books 1-3. Ok. This one is a re-read for me. Well, I cheated a little and checked out the audio book from the library and listened to it at work since I have so many other books to read at the moment. Anyway – I wanted to revisit this book to refresh my memory on the little details before the new season of True Blood starts on June 26th. The 4th season is based on the 4th book, Dead to the World. I read Dead to the World for the 1st time in 2009 and I loved it. The biggest thing that stuck with me from this book was the shower scene (if you have read it […]
