Deep Burn by Kimberly Kindcaid

Deep Burn by Kimberly Kindcaid

I’m a fan of Kimberly Kincaid and some of her other series. Since I enjoy stories about fire fighters, I decided to try this Station Seventeen series. I enjoy the mystery, the technical aspects and the suspense of them. These are romances, of course, as well. I bought the first book, Skin Deep, on sale because I was getting an ARC of this one. Then I realized the Hot Ice anthology I bought for fun had Deep Check in it, which is related.  So by this time, I am comfortable with the group at Station Seventeen. When that happens, the humor is better because you know them and their little quirks. Deep Burn is about Shae, a female firefighter who gives […]

Early Review: Some Kind of Hero by Suzanne Brockmann

Early Review: Some Kind of Hero by Suzanne Brockmann

I was recently making a list of favorite series in the romantic suspense genre for a friend. I couldn’t even get to five series; I listed three. Since it is one of my favorite genres, I was surprised how few series made my list. There are many to read but not the quality of this Troubleshooters series.   These are top notch with a great blend of romance and action and mystery. I appreciate the fact some of them are personally based and some are based on the team’s missions, not all one thing or the other. Some Kind of Hero is more personally based. Peter has just got his daughter into his life and now she’s missing. His neighbor, […]

Wanted & Wired by Vivien Jackson

Wanted & Wired by Vivien Jackson

I won Wanted & Wired in an April prize pack of 8 books from the publisher, Sourcebooks Casablanca. They all look interesting but I started here. This is a very different story with a bit of everything. There is science fiction, romance, action / suspense, and paranormal aspects. The world is a fantasy. Texas has seceded from the US. There are people who are technologically enhanced.  Travel is in ships. The world and characters unfold from Mari’s point of view. She is an assassin. Her handler, Heron, is one of the enhanced and she’s attracted to him, even though most would consider him in a different class. They do a hit which goes very badly. I spent considerable time confused because […]

I am a long-time mystery reader. In fact, I used to ONLY read mysteries for about 15 years. So when a new book is released in a series I have read for years, I don’t have to play catch-up and I figure I might as well review it.  Plus this one is a trifecta: new release, library book and audio so it fits all three challenges!! I read all three series by J. A. Jance. The other two series feature law enforcement professionals. In the Ali Reynolds series, she is a news anchor who was briefly law enforcement and now works with her husband’s high-tech firm. I enjoy the nerdy aspects and this one delves into AI, artificial intelligence. This […]

On A Clear Winter Night by Elizabeth Hunter

On A Clear Winter Night by Elizabeth Hunter

This is a very brief, Read It Track It review. On A Clear Winter Night finds Ava and Malachi during the holidays, after the first three books in the Irin Chronicles series.  All the books in the series, to this point, feature this couple. I read this in preparation to go on with the series; I’m behind. This far, it is an urban fantasy. Going forward, it becomes paranormal romance where each book will feature a different couple. This sweet, short story gives a happy holiday to catch us up with the couple, their friends and family. I really enjoyed it and it brought me back to this special world.  I’ll read on with The Staff and the Blade. Then, The Silent will be […]

I enjoyed this, so much, even though I had to suspend my disbelief at times. Run to Ground is the first in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. There are other series by this author set in this small town also. I have not read those yet, so I didn’t recognize characters some might. I read the prequel novella to the Search and Rescue series. I think it was too short for me to get connected. The characters here were small town quirky and so lovable. Jules has had some tough situations in her life and did the bet she could. She is loyal and compassionate. She is not stupid but sometimes she is almost TSTL. Jules loves her siblings. And […]

Blog tour: Dating-ish by Penny Reid

Blog tour: Dating-ish by Penny Reid

Penny Reid is one of my favorite authors, in the top 5,  and nearly everything of hers I read is a 5 star book. She has included so many things I love like friends knitting and cooking, and cultural things like Harry Potter and Charlie Hunnam.  She is addictive. I have such respect for her work. So what about Dating-ish?  I had trouble starting this one; I didn’t like Matt. At 38%, I wasn’t sure I was going to like him. Ugh, coconut.  I LOVE Marie. She, like Penny’s books, is smart and vulnerable and honest. It amazes me how strong these women are to be so authentic.  As a total computer nerd, things like AI and robots are fascinating to me. Plus, I […]

I received the ebook from Tor in a nifty program they have called book of the month club. It seems to have freebies of older award winners, often the first book in the series. Perfect since this is where I want to start and from their perspective, it gets me hooked on a series or author. But I preferred to try the audiobook which was available at the library. I discovered this is a very popular space opera series which is now a TV show on syfy called The Expanse. I watched the first episode and it follows the book closely, except for the character’s physical looks. It looks like each season is one book. Since it follows the book, […]
