Blog tour: Dating-ish by Penny Reid

Blog tour: Dating-ish by Penny Reid

Penny Reid is one of my favorite authors, in the top 5,  and nearly everything of hers I read is a 5 star book. She has included so many things I love like friends knitting and cooking, and cultural things like Harry Potter and Charlie Hunnam.  She is addictive. I have such respect for her work. So what about Dating-ish?  I had trouble starting this one; I didn’t like Matt. At 38%, I wasn’t sure I was going to like him. Ugh, coconut.  I LOVE Marie. She, like Penny’s books, is smart and vulnerable and honest. It amazes me how strong these women are to be so authentic.  As a total computer nerd, things like AI and robots are fascinating to me. Plus, I […]

I received the ebook from Tor in a nifty program they have called book of the month club. It seems to have freebies of older award winners, often the first book in the series. Perfect since this is where I want to start and from their perspective, it gets me hooked on a series or author. But I preferred to try the audiobook which was available at the library. I discovered this is a very popular space opera series which is now a TV show on syfy called The Expanse. I watched the first episode and it follows the book closely, except for the character’s physical looks. It looks like each season is one book. Since it follows the book, […]

Thrifty Thursday: Audio The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle #JIAM

Thrifty Thursday: Audio The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle #JIAM

The purpose of Thrifty Thursday is to read a book which was free (at some point). Tantor freebie on January 18, 2017  (currently $6.99 to $23.26 as of writing this post) Overall rating 4.29 with 181,280 ratings and 4,802 reviews   I get emails occasionally from Tantor with a free audio download. So since June is Audiobook Month, I decided it was a very appropriate Thrifty Thursday selection. This is a classic mystery tale, set in the late 1800s in England. Who doesn’t love a British accent? I am listening to many more of my books set in England for just this reason. Simon Prebble does a fine job with male and female voices differentiated. I could distinguish which character […]

I listened to Menagerie on audio last year and loved it. It gutted me. I became very attached to the characters and the world. So I definitely wanted to read more. Once I had it, it was hard to start reading, knowing the emotional toll it would take. The paranormal creatures of the Menagerie had broken free but it was clear their lives would not be easy and they would be captured again. Maybe since I knew the world and parameters, this wasn’t as difficult as expected. It was still heart wrenching. This shows clearly discrimination and what amounts to slavery of sentient beings. The story gives us insight into the feelings, relationships, plans, hopes and dreams of […]

Midnight Target by Elle Kennedy

Midnight Target by Elle Kennedy

This is the final book in the Killer Instincts series!!  Kennedy has done a better job than most of the romantic suspense authors in giving me heart-pounding action, which includes aspects of their missions. We get details on the operatives skills and use of technology. There is more grit with people actually getting hurt or dying, not just fluffy glossing over of the operations. Midnight Target has two different romances happening. The main one is between Cate, Jim Morgan’s daughter and the “Rookie” operative, David Ashton. They have always been attracted but Jim Morgan was clearly against the relationship of his daughter with one of the team. Cate has had a rough go of things and […]

Blade Bound by Chloe Neill

My friends told me to read this series and I finally came to the party a couple of years ago, listening to audio books while driving back and forth between Minnesota and North Carolina. I fell in love with Merit and Ethan. Strong women with hot guys trying to make the world a better place with their own sassy quirks are always welcome. Reading Blade Bound,  the final book in this series, I felt mostly sad. I couldn’t get past those feelings. The story felt nostalgic and almost too much like every other book in the Chicagoland Vampire series. Anything new happening, growth or learning by the characters,  had been foreshadowed in other books and expected. So there weren’t really any surprises. The BIG things […]

Hurricane by Cherry Adair

The Cutter Cay series  so far has been about the three Cutter brothers. In the previous book, Stormchaser , we learned about Jonah, the unknown half-brother. He’s great and falls for Callista. She is well educated, had a horrid childhood, and grew up living next door to the Case family.  Which leads us to this book, about the long-time enemy, Rydell Case. Hurricane is my new, favorite book in the series.  We finally get to see some thought processes and what is going on with Rydell.  He has been married and divorced. So the relationship doesn’t feel too fast, since they already know each other well. They have issues, lots of issues. There are many people trying to control them and use them, separately and […]

I read the first book in the Opposites Attract series ,  Completely Yours which was 4.5 stars of smart, sexy fun. Of course, I wanted to read more. I was not disappointed. Maya is so strong, open and with a huge heart. She willingly risks everything to help others, do what is right or get what she wants. She is so brave. Alex is extremely smart and capable, but he has always played it safe. He has a lot happening in his life, can he risk himself enough to change and grow? I enjoyed these characters and they made me feel, care and cheer for them. They are more than average folks, which hits my reality meter. Some things work out for them a […]
